This past holiday season, my wife and I visited the National Archives in Washington, D.C. to research early American War records involving Spear/Speer/Speirs, etc. This time we did not restrict our search for Spears only in the southeastern U.S. but included the New England states as well. We spent two days searching microfilm, book and original archived documents. Most of these documents are only available in the Archives. Although we recorded many of these records, there is a good chance we have missed some records so the following list might not be complete. Many of the following names are also documented in my book, "Spear, Speir, Speer and Friends." Italicized comments refer to those individuals.
