Return of William Murrell
SCMAR, Vol. II, Fall 1974, No. 4, p.177
This district apparently was a tax district lying within and part of the judicial district of Camden. As with the foregoing list, Murrell's Return was only one of several (see p. 172) from the area. The first number after each name is acres, the second is Negroes owned, and the third number is carriages. This return was sworn on Sept. 1, 1785.

1790 Bourbon Co., Kentuckey
Email From:"vickie clarke" KY There are two important agricultural products linked to Bourbon County - bourbon whiskey and thoroughbred horses. However, only one is still produced here. According to local historians, Jacob Spears first produced the clear liquor that took on the color of the charred white oak barrels that it was shipped in sometime during the 1790s. He took the whiskey to New Orleans to sell and called it "bourbon" after the county he lived in, which was established in 1785. Distilleries were common in the county over the next hundred and fifty years, but after Prohibition the distilleries faded away. It has been many years since bourbon was made in the county
that gave its name to the aged, mellow liquor. However, one common misconception is that Bourbon County is dry and that is not true-you can still buy bourbon here, if you want to.

Early Records of Flint Hill Baptist Church, York County
SCMAR, Vol. XVII, Summer 1989, No. 3, p.132
The predominant denomination in the York County area of South Carolina was not Baptist, but Presbyterian. Flint Hill Baptist Church was one of the earliest churches of the Baptist denomination in the area. It was sometimes referred to as the "Baptist Church of Christ, on Sugar Creek." The records are extant from the time of the constitution of the church in 1792. These minutes are of particular genealogical interest in that they frequently record the names and locations of the churches from which the members transferred letters, thus indicating their previous places of residence. Some members of this congregation may have been residents of North Carolina, the state line being a short distance from the house of worship. The entries included here are from the WPA typescript which your editor has checked against the original record housed at the South Caroliniana Library on the University of South Carolina campus (Columbia, South Carolina) and are published with the permission of the History Committee of Flint Hill Baptist Church (Fort Mill, South Carolina) and the Rev. Daniel M. Griffin, Pastor. Our thanks and appreciation are extended to them.

There is a Thomas Jeffereys living near the RobertF. Spiers shown above in the 1820 Jasper Co., Ga. census.)
